After gastric sleeve surgery, your healthcare provider will provide you with specific dietary guidelines to follow during the various stages of your recovery. The first few days after surgery, you will not be able to eat solid foods, and your diet will consist of clear liquids, such as water, broth, and sugar-free gelatin.
As you progress through your recovery, your healthcare provider will gradually introduce more solid foods, starting with soft and pureed foods. Some examples of good first foods after gastric sleeve surgery include:
1. Protein shakes or smoothies - These can help you get the protein and nutrients you need to support your recovery and promote healing.
2. Soups or broths - Low-sodium, low-fat soups or broths can be a good source of nutrients and help keep you hydrated.
3. Soft, pureed foods - Examples include pureed fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, such as scrambled eggs or mashed beans.
4. Low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese - These can be a good source of protein and help promote healing.
It's important to follow your healthcare provider's dietary guidelines closely and avoid any foods or beverages that may cause discomfort or interfere with your recovery. Additionally, be sure to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and support your healing.
