First of all, we established this company in 2019 with Mert Bey to reach out to patients who want to receive treatment and surgery in Turkey from abroad and to prepare, monitor, and follow up on all their needs from start to finish. Mert Bey is my childhood friend and also an anesthesia technician like myself. The most important feature of our company is that all our employees have health diplomas or are fully trained in the field of health. For us, the health of the patient, the success of the surgery, and the return of our patients to their countries in a healthy condition are the most important things. Therefore, we do not leave our patients alone as much as possible during their entire treatment and we move together with them at almost every step.
This collaboration begins from the moment we meet the patient at the airport. Before they arrive, we make a plan and act according to this plan. In some surgeries, we go to the hospital before the airport to have their tests done and then take the patient to the hotel. In some cases, we directly take them to the hotel and allow them to rest, and start tests and treatments from the next morning.
The hotel we offer to our patients, if they do not have specific preferences, is usually the Espina Hotel located in Lara, Antalya. This hotel has a 4-star rating, a charming pool in its garden, and provides clean service in bed and breakfast format. Since we usually use the same hotel, we also know the hotel staff. Therefore, we have the necessary permission to visit the patient in their room, if needed, and perform dressing and similar procedures comfortably in the patient's hotel room, which may not be possible in other hotels. In addition, the accommodation in the hotel included in our patients' treatment package also covers the accommodation expenses of a visitor accompanying the patient. They do not have to pay extra for this. They can go for a short walk in the cafes and restaurants around the hotel and have the meals they desire or they can order meals to their hotel rooms. The hotel reception is also very helpful in this regard.
If the patient has come for weight loss surgery, we want them to stay in the hospital for a total of 3 nights. We also want the patient to stay in Antalya for a total of 5 nights. Two nights of hotel accommodation, one night before the surgery and one night after the hospital stay, are included in the surgery package.
If the patient has come for plastic surgery, rhinoplasty, or dental treatment, we generally want them to stay here for 7 or 8 nights. One night of this period is before the surgery, and the remaining nights are the post-operative period. During the time the patients stay in the hospital, they do not need to check out of the hotel and pack their belongings, but if the patient wants to check out, we do not refuse.
If the patient has come for hair, eyebrow, or beard transplantation, 2 nights of hotel accommodation are included in the package.
Before our patients arrive, we usually provide them with a lot of information. However, when they arrive, we continue to provide instant information and keep checking on them. For example, while we are heading from the airport to the hotel, we tell the patient scheduled for surgery the next day not to eat, drink, or smoke after midnight.
We especially do not want patients who come for combined surgeries to smoke. Since smoking patients have a much longer recovery period and can cause some negative conditions such as necrosis, we advise the patient not to smoke as much as possible before the surgery and not to smoke for at least 3-4 weeks after the surgery.
If our patient has come for weight loss surgery, we start with the doctor's check-ups in the morning before the surgery. These check-ups include internal medicine specialist, chest diseases specialist, cardiology, and psychiatry. Additionally, we perform an EKG, respiratory function test, blood tests, and a comprehensive abdominal ultrasound to identify any health issues or conditions that may hinder the surgery. If we believe that the surgery would pose a risk to the patient's life, we can cancel the operation. After all these tests, we have a brief meeting with the dietitian to assess the patient's body measurements. Then, the patient meets the surgeon, and we perform an endoscopy before the surgery. This is important to determine if the patient is a suitable candidate for the correct surgery. In some cases, we may recommend gastric bypass to a patient who came for gastric sleeve. However, the final decision rests with the patient.
The surgery takes approximately 2 hours and is performed using the laparoscopic surgical method. This duration includes the patient's preoperative preparations, the surgery itself, and the recovery time.
Prior to the surgery, a company representative who assists during the patient's procedures stays in the patient's room after the surgery, monitoring their health condition and resolving any communication issues between the patient and the staff. They also fulfill all the patient's needs, including going to the toilet, postoperative walking, and drinking water. On the second day after the surgery, the dietitian visits the patient in their room and provides some information. To ensure the patient doesn't forget, we provide them with a 9-page information document prepared by our company. This document includes various information, particularly about what the patient should and should not do after the surgery, as well as the foods they should and should not consume.
If our patient has come for plastic surgery or ENT surgery, after conducting the necessary tests and preparations, we introduce them to the surgeon and ensure that the patient discusses the surgery with the doctor. Again, a company representative stays with the patient overnight, assisting with their needs such as going to the toilet, walking, and eating. Once the hospital stay is over, we take the patient to the hotel and maintain continuous communication. If there is an urgent need during their stay at the hotel, we visit them and meet their needs, which may include medication or dressing changes. Generally, one day before the patients return to their countries, we take them back to the hospital or the doctor's clinic for final check-ups and provide them with a document stating that there are no obstacles for their flight. Unless asked at the airport, they do not need to mention that they had surgery. However, if there are any inquiries about their suitability for flying, they can use the document provided by the doctor to board the plane.
If the patient has come for dental treatment, we take them to our dental clinic on the day after their arrival and conduct some checks before they are examined face-to-face by the dentist. In some cases, the planned dental treatment may change after the clinic's examinations. In such cases, we can proceed with a new treatment plan within the patient's budget. In some situations, patients may need to return to Turkey for implant healing or continuation of treatment.
If the patient has come for hair, beard, or eyebrow transplantation, we take them to our hair transplantation clinic on the day after their arrival and perform some blood tests. After marking the area where the hair will be transplanted, taking photos, and shaving, the treatment process begins. These procedures can take up to 8 hours. Post-treatment, intramuscular injections may be required to protect the patient from the side effects of local anesthetics.
Sometimes, we perform surgeries or treatments at the doctor's clinic. For example, these can include procedures such as ear pinning surgery, vaginoplasty, labiaplasty, Botox, fillers, stem cell treatments, scar revision, and other minor procedures. In such cases, we can create a customized treatment and accommodation plan according to the patient's needs.
There may be situations where things don't go as planned. While we do our best to prevent such situations, it doesn't mean they will never occur. For instance, a patient may not be satisfied with the results of a plastic surgery. In such cases, the patient may need to come back to Turkey for a revision surgery. In this situation, the patient is responsible for arranging and covering the costs of their return and departure tickets, as well as their accommodation during their stay. If the dissatisfaction is due to an error or inadequate surgery by the doctor, we negotiate with the doctor to avoid charging the patient an additional fee for the revision surgery. However, if the patient prefers to have the revision surgery with a different doctor rather than the one who performed the initial surgery, all expenses for the new procedure need to be paid as if it were a new surgery.
If a patient wants to undergo surgery at a lower cost due to the general prices in Antalya, we mention the option of Istanbul. Surgeries and treatments in Istanbul are generally cheaper compared to Antalya. However, since our company is based in Antalya, the quality of our services may be compromised when provided in Istanbul. For patients who prioritize price, it is inevitable to receive fewer benefits from certain services.
We maintain communication with our patients even after they return to their home countries. In some cases, patients may require advice from the doctor. If we know the answer to the patient's question, we respond directly. If not, we establish communication between the treating physician and the patient to ensure a flow of information.
