Liposuction surgery, also known as lipoplasty or body contouring, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat from specific areas of the body. The process involves the use of a small, thin tube called a cannula, which is inserted through a small incision in the skin. The cannula is then moved back and forth to loosen the fat, which is suctioned out of the body using a vacuum-like device.
Before the surgery, the patient is given either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation to ensure that they are comfortable and pain-free during the procedure. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the surgeon will make small incisions in the treatment area, through which the cannula is inserted. The surgeon will carefully move the cannula back and forth to loosen the fat, and then use suction to remove it from the body.
After the procedure is complete, the incisions are typically closed with stitches, and the patient is fitted with a compression garment to help reduce swelling and support the healing process. The length of the surgery and recovery time can vary depending on the amount of fat being removed and the specific technique used by the surgeon.
It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, and is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise. It is typically used to remove stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise, and to contour specific areas of the body for a more sculpted appearance.
