Liposuction is a surgical procedure that aims to remove excess fat from certain areas of the body. The general steps involved in the liposuction procedure are:
1. Anesthesia: Before the surgery, the patient is given anesthesia to numb the area where the procedure will be performed. Depending on the amount of fat being removed and the patient's health status, local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used.
2. Incisions: After the anesthesia has taken effect, the surgeon makes small incisions in the area where the fat is to be removed. The size and number of incisions depend on the amount and location of the fat to be removed.
3. Tumescent solution: A tumescent solution containing local anesthesia, epinephrine, and saline is injected into the area where the fat is to be removed. This solution helps to numb the area, constrict the blood vessels, and liquefy the fat, making it easier to remove.
4. Fat removal: The surgeon uses a thin, hollow tube called a cannula to suction out the fat from the incisions made earlier. The cannula is inserted through the incisions and moved back and forth to break up the fat and suction it out.
5. Compression garment: After the fat has been removed, the surgeon may place a compression garment over the treated area to help reduce swelling and promote healing.
6. Closure: The incisions are closed with sutures or adhesive strips and covered with a dressing.
The entire liposuction procedure typically takes a few hours, depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the number of areas being treated. After the procedure, patients are monitored for a few hours and then allowed to go home the same day.
