After rhinoplasty, the nasal tissues and bones may be swollen and delicate, and the area inside the nose may be packed with gauze or other materials to control bleeding and support the healing process. Sniffing forcefully or blowing the nose too soon after the surgery can disrupt the healing process and lead to complications such as bleeding, pain, infection, and longer recovery time.
To avoid these risks, it is typically recommended to avoid sniffing, blowing the nose, or any activity that creates pressure in the nasal area for at least the first week or so after rhinoplasty. During this time, your surgeon may recommend using saline spray or a neti pot to gently rinse your nasal passages and keep them moist.
It's important to follow your surgeon's post-operative instructions carefully to ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of complications. If you have any questions or concerns about post-operative care after rhinoplasty, be sure to discuss them with your surgeon.
